In your article you mention Ritalin as potentially addictive. Is this a concern for children being treated with Ritalin?

In response to Ritalin for children posted by ciaomondo:

Good question-although this is classified as a drug of abuse, and is sold and distributed illegally for recreational purposes, there have been recent studies that have shown that substance abuse issues in children/teens who have been properly diagnosed and treated for ADHD are much lower. In other words, since they are getting treated for the underlying problem, they feel less of a need to look to illegal/street drugs as a means to relieve the symptoms of their illness.
I will go into this in more depth when I look at co-occuring disorders.
thanks for asking such insightful questions!
